A few more new things.

Finally, some big boxes arrived on my doorstep this afternoon. Here are a few peeks at the new lovelies! I think I have everything listed in the shop as individual yards...I'll get more listings up in the next day or so for half-yard and full-yard sets.

New product for the shop.

Introducing Amy Butler paper into the shop! Each set contains 12 sheets of double-sided paper (that means 24 designs per set...just imagine how many cards that could make!). I'm excited to add this - it's a great set for the paper stasher (I'm a former addict myself) that wants to add some color and pattern without committing to a huge 12x12 pack. And I love that it coordinates with so many of my fabrics - which, btw, I should be getting in a couple of shipments this week. All Amy Butler, all beautiful, all very springy in the pink/green/gray/yellow variety. I'll let you know when they arrive!

A day off.

Today, I have a day off. From kid-duty, anyway, and I am enjoying it thoroughly so far! I did not have to pour milk for breakfast, nor do I have to wrangle the girls into their leotards or even take them to gymnastics. Kirk has promised he will take them swimming this afternoon as well. When we announced this one-day, Mom-free event to the kids, Reed replied, "But why? It's not Mother's Day." Thanks, buddy, for thinking moms only deserve a day off when it is Hallmark-approved.

As for me, I plan to get some groceries, start reading this book, continue organizing the craft room, and maybe even vacuum a room or two. That's a big maybe.

What are you up to today?

Do you want to get some fabric for free? I'm sponsoring a giveaway over on Jen's blog, Simply Designed and Etsy Finds...if you check out this link, you'll see what goodies you have a chance to win! Simply leave a comment for her and she will pick a winner early next week. She says some really nice things about me and my stuff, too. If you ever need graphic design I highly suggest you run, not walk over to her shop and get the ball rolling...you won't be disappointed!

Signs of spring.

We know spring is here when the bubble gun makes it's first appearance, and Grace states, "Mama...did you know bubbles are magic?"

Forrest Gump, part 2.

You know that scene in Forrest Gump, when young Forrest gets fitted with leg braces? And then he gets teased by kids and he starts to run in those awkward things - as he goes faster, the braces start falling apart with screws, metal, and leather straps flying every-which-way. Run, Forrest, run!

It feels kinda like that around here lately.

You see, Reed wears a brace (called an AFO, or ankle-foot orthosis) on his left leg. He has a mild form of cerebral palsy which causes his left side to be weak and less coordinated than his right side. The AFO helps keep his foot level so the toes don't drag on the ground when he walks. And fortunately for him, they are not like the leg braces of the past, with metal stays and leather straps and such. It is crafted from high density plastic, some velcro, and a few screws. Oh, and it has a camouflage look to it, of his choosing. Very important detail!

So anyway, Reed's AFO has been a lot like Forrest's metal braces lately, practically falling apart at the seams, er, rivets. Screws keep popping out (at school, of course) which means I get to haul it back to the orthotist to get fixed. Not a big deal, it's just a long way from home. And I had to make the trip three times in the last week! Today, I got it back (again) and noticed this time the orthotist actually super-glued the screw in place. Normally they don't do that because the glue can break down the plastic...but apparently he's getting tired of fixing it, too.

Why does our guy keep busting this (expensive) thing? Two words. Growth spurt. Turns out, when I checked closely this afternoon I saw that his toes are off the edge by over an inch. Hmmm. Bad mom for not noticing this over, say, the past 3-6 months! And me with a degree in occupational therapy!

My guy rocks.

Kirk is so good at so many things. He rocks (literally) on bass and guitar; he rocks (figuratively) at his job in the tech world; and of course he rocks at home when it comes to being an awesome husband and father. He also does little things for me (when I ask nicely), such as "honey, could you come help me with my blog banner?" Such was the case a little while ago, when he sat at the computer, and with a little html wizardry he fixed a problem in the template code so now you can see the pretty banner above. So, thank you honey. You rock!

p.s. If you subscribe to my blog (and if you do, thank you! you rock too!) please see the real deal and check out the new banner. My friend Jen rocks in her own cool, graphic design way. Thanks again, Jen, for the new look for the shop and the blog! I love it!

Blog recommendation.

I have thoroughly enjoyed the blog habit over the past few months. Beautiful photographs of the everyday, paired with simple statements and observations. I just love it! Go check it out - I think you'll love it too. If I get my act together I may try doing something similar...maybe for a week.

Around here this weekend...the Pinewood Derby, gymnastics, cleaning a very cluttered house, errands, church, Life Group. And hopefully lots of time in the sunshine. Hope you have a good one!

Wednesday, AKA The Longest Afternoon of the Week.

Simply put, kids in our school district get out early on Wednesdays for extra "teacher planning time." Truly, I don't begrudge the teachers their time. Yet inevitably, it wreaks havoc on our afternoon and d-r-a-g-s ... i-t ... o-u-t ... and by the time oh, say 5:00 rolls around I am ready to scream! The kids fight more than usual and make more of a mess than usual and generally go crazy and push every one of my buttons (more than usual). Oye. It is not fun.

So, I fight the fires and try to corral the mess and banish them all to the other room to at least keep the insanity away from me for a little while. At least Wednesday only comes once a week.

Simple pleasures.

I get excited about the littlest things sometimes. For instance, I just pulled a giant catalog from my mailbox from U-Line. What is U-Line, you ask? Well, they sell packaging and shipping products. Things like mailing envelopes, bubble wrap, boxes, bins, bags, etc. I could spend hours poring over this stuff. I know, it's sad, isn't it? (Good thing I'm in the market for some new shipping envelopes, so I can justify the time spent on perusing all 451 pages!)

And, the kids are home today thanks to a teacher workday. It's been lovely weather but they are all as crazy as can be. I am holding out for the time of the afternoon when they settle in to watch some TV, so I can curl up with a good cup of tea and a new book.

p.s. speaking of books, did I tell you I started reading the Twilight series? I know it's a movie and all, but I can't help picturing this guy as Edward. It's just that the guy in the movie will always be Cedric Diggory to me, tragically killed on a whim by Lord Voldemort. ("Kill the spare!") Yes, I have read those books too many times for a gal my age. But I digress.

Craft show love.

Thanks to all of the locals who visited my space at Millard West today. It was a great day! I appreciate the kind words and enthusiasm for my designs. And you want to know the best part of my day? I got to hang with my mom. Love, love, love her! Thanks for the help, Mom, and thank you for teaching me to sew. Who knew those lessons would turn into this?

Up and running.

The fabric shop is up and running! I originally was planning to wait until next week, post-craft show. However, I am pretty much ready to go for Saturday and decided not to wait any longer. So, take a peek...and keep checking back for new arrivals! I'll add an Etsy mini to my blog sidebar soon, too.

This would be my Calgon moment.

It is very loud in here right now.

The Zune is plugged into the amp, playing at full blast.

Kirk is playing along, with his bass. Loudly.

Children are screaming above the music (because, how could they really hear themselves otherwise?) and dancing crazily around.

Yet here I sit, obviously disturbed by the noise. I enjoy knowing the rest of the fam is enjoying the moment, but this kind of sensory overload is the sort of stuff that makes my spinal column vibrate.

I think I will retire to a quiet corner of the house, with a new book. Do you think the noise will follow me?

Staging.

There is a lot of set-up / take-down going on around here. I am feeling confident that things will go smoothly this weekend! Yet, I must be stressed at some sub-conscious level considering that last night I dreamt about craft shows ALL NIGHT LONG. Real life is less stressful than dreams are! Anyway, here is a peek at one of the table set-ups.And, Grace - lucky girl that she is - just happened to come across a bag filled with toys that were destined to be donated. Considering how preoccupied I've been, I relented and allowed her to dump the bag and play away!

Without further ado.

Introducing the look of iCraft. I love it! Thanks to Jen for her work in designing the logo! I had a clear vision of what I wanted, yet I have no computer skills when it comes to this kind of thing. That's pretty frustrating for me, actually, so collaboration is my best option. Here are the lovelies I got yesterday. Some will be used as I continue to prepare for the Millard West show coming up on the 14th...but most of the yardage will be listed on Etsy. Soon, soon.
Prep work continues for the show, big time this week. Lots of hot pink and lime green for the display, as seen above. The flag bunting is killing me I love it so much! And, I realized that my booth space will be larger in area than my dining room. How in the heck am I going to fill that?

Psyched.

Big boxes arrived on my doorstep this afternoon. Fabric, fabric, and more fabric! And, a new logo for the new biz. Perfect timing! Will share more soon - dinner is in the oven and I'm out with friends tonight.
